See who voted what

FT.com: MPC decisions charted

Technically a duplicate, but with the lambasting Mr "sniff the air" Blanchflower has had here in the past it seemed only fair to post his record,

Click on each member to see how they have voted. Danny boy has only voted twice for a rise, as has Rachel Lomax and Charses Bean at 3. This compares to Andrew Sentance and Tim Besley, who are banging for a rise 8 times (of a total of 11) and Paul Tucker, Kate Barker and the main man Merv, who are pretty in line with movements, Tucker slightly more dovish and Merv slightly more hawkish with Kate in the middle. (good judge or swing voter?)

Enjoy :)

Looking at previous votes, it looks like random lottery to me .... look at what happened on the March 2007 vote ! Makes you wonder how they make their decisions.

Excellent..

It is interesting that none of the members voted for a cut in the last 12 months and given the economic forecast, it looks like the ladder of interest rates is more than definitely going to rise further.. enough to cause a crash, one would hope!

I find it very interesting that some people, like Rachel Lomax' almost never vote for a raise, but also never for a drop.

You would think that if they truly believed that interest rates were ok at the 1st level, but they were raised, the next month they would vote to lower to the level of interest rates to their previous belief. At least some of the time.

Or put another way. If they hold, but interest rates are raised, and they again vote to hold. Then they are accepting that they were wrong to hold the previous time, but are choosing to hold this time.

Now Rachel does this far too much. I have another theory; she's spineless.

They should get rid of her. She doesn't have an opinion. Its an empty vote.

David Blanchflower is another example. During March he was the only one to break ranks and vote for a rise. Perhaps he did this to improve his voting history, while knowing that the rate wasn't going anywhere?

I don' think that this is information is correct. As David Blanchflower voted for lowering rates in March 2007 . For listening from the horses mouth following is the excel from BOE website. Click on 2007 sheet.

Blanchflower & Lomax, do they talk to each other on the pillow or are they being told what to do?

Ohh, look! A new function on the website to report comments. Bravo admin!

As I told my boss (who owns BTL properties and is very worried about the current situation), the last time inflation was this high, interest rates were raised to 7%.

Enough said.

Have to agree with Chilli's comment. When you consider how much interest rates have had to increase this past year, the fact they probably haven't peaked yet and the fact that inflation isn't yet under control, you really do have to wonder what the hell Lomax and Blanchflower are playing at? If their remit is to keep inflation on target how can they justify their approach? They need replacing pronto by someone who at least appears to know what is going on. The financial trust of millions should not be in their hands..............

Who selected the members of the MPC? Conflict among the MPC members looks infinitely phoney. All we can expect of them is their 'conscience ' which nowadays is such scarce resource, particularly when billions of pounds is at stake depending on the decisions by the MPC. In the real world, unless there is genuine conflict of power representing interested parties, no genuine equilibruim is achieved.

Have you noticed that the last 2 members to join (Besley & Sentance) almost always voted to raise the rates, do you think Mervyn brought them in to boost his chances of winning the vote every month. They almost default to raise the rates even when the rest of the comittee vote to hold. Add another of their type and we could see 10% by Xmas !!!!

Rachel Lomax is doing nothing more than most of us would do given the chance to 'earn' such high salary. That is sitting on the fence and going with the flow...
