Work harder, work harder you plebs, you really want that bigger house and that nice 40 year mortgage, forget retiring one day we all want to work past 70 because after all it fulfils your social needs. Property is everything, property is status, you are only a success in life if yours is bigger 'n' shinier than all your peers after all 6 x both your salaries is nothing these days. Go on, get that feel good factor, buy that big house with that interest only mortgage after all you can always sell it at a vast fat tax-free profit and downsize when you retire, nooooo problemooo because savings and pensions are for suckers PROPERTY IS EVERYTHING.

Personally I would rather sit in an empty field and pull my toenails out with a red hot tongs.

A quick look at a mainstream TV channel programme schedule (for the example the BBC) will reveal the sad state of affairs. A large chunk of the schedule will be dominated by programmes suitable for viewers with brains the size of peanuts. Small wonder we see headlines like "UK housing market full of dissatisfied householders".

"For example just under 30% of respondents with a household income of between £50,000 and £80,000 deterred from moving because of high house prices."

How much do they earn?? I know this is combined income, but come on!!
If my household income was 80,000 quid, I would be laughing.. I could even afford a one bedroom flat on that money...

hehe...lovely sarcasm! made me chortle!!...but ouch, there's a great truthful ring in what you said. It almost sounded like Gordon Gekko's "greed is good" speech!

But i think this article is a hint of where the house price problem really lies... that maybe it lies with the 1% of people who own nearly 25% of this country's assets?

It might just be middle income greed as you say, but maybe it is that even middle income families are unhappy, (with their hard earned medical degrees or whatever), that they cannot live in the house they think they deserve? Do you think it is a sign of a stretched bubble, if even high income families bringing in £50K+ are moaning?!

Im no expert economist: but perhaps, when speculation about house prices turns to dust, then the property tycoons will bail out just in time (as they do so well) and move onto some other greed-fuelled bubble.... telecomms bubble, dotcom bubble, housing bubble...what next?

To me it is becoming abundantly clear, that governments must act and stop the accumulation of wealth by the super-rich

...or 99% of the population will become chavs!!!

£80,000. I can't get to grip with these figures or indeed where they come from. Yes of course some dinky's (to bring back teh late 9's jargon) get this, but most people I know and consider themselves well paid have household incomes of 50 -60k and that's at the top end in London. In the frozen North it's more like 40K. Am I moving in the wrong circles? Yes I know people who earn 100k but they are the exception. Who are these people on £80K and how many of them? They must all be younger than me so I can only assume anybody who has a graduated in the last 15 years is in for a nasty shock when the down turn comes. Are any of these figures backed up by statistics? or is the whole article full of self delusion. .... I earn 80K so so must everyone else. We really are in for a rough ride . People are going to crying in their sleep not understanding whats hit them , where will the next penny come from, anxiety, stress, cold sweats. People are just living in effing wonderland. Reality has lost the plot.
