Job done right for £199?
Firstrung: Independent Network of Estate Agents - Tesco proposition fatally flawed and skirting rules
The Sun on Sat 30th June states TESCO will not be an agent, but a 'property portal' that will (for £199) show sellers (The Sun's words) how to become estate agents. "TESCO have linked with various experts" and will allow owners to upload up to 20 pics etc. All they'll need is; internet access, a tape, a digital camera and here's the good bit, "For Sale Boards" for outside the home which will be provided.

Actually its a good value proposition. I've signed up already, and anyone who has had enough of lazy gap-toothed shiny-suited low IQ estate agents should do the same.

Nice comment Paul as a buyer I would prefer to deal with someone using this service, I hate having a slimey Estate Agent with me when looking at a property. This is usually what happens when peoples easy jobs and lifestyles are threatened. We will see alot of this VI spin now....

are they all 'that' bad Paul? I reckon if TESCO simply takes them on (in the form they curently operate) given Tesco could easily house an agency in each store, that'd be good enough as it would par the service down to what it's worth, £500 a sale or half a percent. I'm after huge competition not destruction.

You soft git! And I've always thought you had an unbiased, business-driven, objective view of the world. If TESCO moves in, then are Estate Agents likely to go the way of the "local" grocer's store? I don't know but let's wait for the market to decide.
If Estate Agents do go the way of the "local" grocer, complete destruction is preferable!

Hmmmm ..... "squeling like a stuck pig" springs to mind. Don't think the EAs like the idea of competition, especially when it upsets the cartel. I would far rather goto just one source when I finally get round to house-hunting again (perhaps in 3-4 years is prices drop enough) than have to trapse around 15-20 agents to be greeted by the same (standard issue) smarmy grin. Incidentally, I don't think there will be the same outcry at the demise of the local estate agents as has met the demise of the local grocer. You don't see grocers lingering at the top of the most distrusted profession list.
First time I've probably said this, but GO TESCO!

When all these estate agents finally find that their cushy number is up, i look forward to seeing at least some of them collecting trolleys at Tescos. This article really cofirms the "closed shop mentality" I'll be glad to see the back of.

Just sent off an email to Fistrung asking for more information on the exciting new possibilities at Tesco.

Talking rot, you misunderstand me, I reckon Tesco will be helpful and potentially shake up the market, however how on earth are they gonig to make improvements other than price? Is that the only complaint you/we have v agents? What kinda service could you possibly expect for 200 quid? I'd rather see them open a full alternative service; housed in their stores, providing a better service, utilising all available technology and addressing all the issues most of us raise v agents rather than simply offering you 20 digi images and a for sale board, do you honestly think that's worth 200 quid? No it isn't, which is why all thse FSBO type sites have failed thus far in the UK.

Thanks. Perhaps my desire to see the smaryness wiped off the faces of thousands of Estates Agents clouded my reasoning.
I wouldn't expect much service at all for 200 quid. However, what service does an Estate Agent offer which I can't do myself cheaper and better? I see this move as getting rid of an unnecessary middleman. I'd be happy to liaise directly with the sellers. I do in business!

The website is an online advertising service, it provides consumers more choice. It allows you to sell your home at a flat-fee of £199 which is significantly lower than the average estate agent.
Tesco property market offers customers the choice of having full control over your home sale. It also provides potential buyers a great deal of information about prospective properties; aerial pictures, location of local schools, transport links and council tax information. The buyer is able to look at all of this before even arranging a viewing of the house. Having online negotiations allows the sellers to achieve the best price for their property.
The website offers comprehensive information guiding customers through the whole process of buying and selling their homes and consequently making the whole process a lot easier!
