And just when you thought things couldn' t get any busier...

Jerusalem Post: Beijing backs Syrian Golan claim

China steps in and guarantees Syria protection against an impending Israeli assault. This is in addition to Russia providing direct militaryassistance and Iran having a pact with Syria.
A shooting war is what you get then the entire financial system is about to collapse. No oil from the Middle East is coming West anytime soon.Expect West Africa and Canada to be our oil suppliers in future at massive cost.
Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said on Tuesday that his country supported Syria's rights to the Golan Heights, the Syrian news agency SANA reported. The government-controlled service also claimed that in a meeting with Syrian Deputy Premier for Economic affairs, Jiabao expressed China's commitment to boosting ties with Syria and developing them in all areas.

Sorry lvmreader

I can't understand "A shooting war is what you get then [when?] the entire financial system is about to collapse." What do you mean please and can you give examples? War is the natural conclusion of irreconciable national policies - it is foreign policy by other means.

I would also expect something as big as this appearing in other sources. Haven't seen much yet.

Artificially staged bumper period for the death merchants and war mongers. Somebody is busy instigating the nations with war drums. Incidentally, the Daily Mail is offering 'World at War' DVDs for free, which is also aired repeatedly by UKTV-History.

The problem is, once someone has learnt to make lucrative profits by staging wars and terrorism, financial frauds, etc. he just finds it ridiculous to make money through constant but modest business, such as by manufacturing friges or washing machines, etc. Certainly making missiles (or peddling CDOs for this matter, indeed) is 100 times more profitable. They are addicted to it. So they fire a rocket into the market place on a peaceful Sunday afternoon, spreading rumors, "Christians did it" to the Muslims, while "Muslims did it" to the Christians. Welcome to the world at wars in which unlimited consumption of weapons and shells is fully guaranteed!

In the booming (at least on the face of it) countries like UK, "War is a solution to mitigate the pain in the post-bubble era" while in the countries still struggling to recover from the collapse of the bubble like Japan where millions of desperate young workers cannot afford to make reasonable living, (and poor aged people are starved to death, every day, yes, many parts of Japan is a wasteland now, really) "War is a solution to reshuffle this unfair society" . Words are quickly spread. I am witnessing what Germans in Weimar Republic witnessed, and what American workers witnessed after the Great Depression.

Calm down, calm down. What are you on about? The conclusions from this article should be 'China is cosying up to key oil suppliers', and not 'we'll all be eating cats and shooting the neighbours anythime soon'.

Don't think this is much of a story. China is trying to avoid controversy with it's foreign policy until the Olympics are over, and agreeing that Syrian territory that is occupied by the Israelis does indeed belong to Syria is not going against the global consensus.

If the Israelis think they can manipulate China as they have the US, they are going to be disappointed!

China has shown itself to be unhappy about reliance on the global markets for it's oil supplies, and has been making private arrangements in a number of oil producing countries.

It knows it is going to become the global top dog, and they suspect (with good reason) that the Americans will take it badly. That said, I don't believe they have the desire to get involved in a shooting war if they can avoid it - but expect the Taiwan issue to be resolved - by force if necessary - in the year following the Olympics.

China is funding Iran. Can't see the US taking this lying down. Japan is also worried. As people in London know Japan is a big friend of Israel. My landlady keeps on going on about a Mayan prophecy of big trouble in 2012.
The truth is Israel is pretty friendless. China can do to the US what the US did to Britain in 1956.

I thought wars tended to happen after crashes and during recessions, not before them.
It's not particularly reliable, but WW2, 1st Gulf War, I am not an historian, so cannot go back any further I am afraid. It is traditionally the lack of wealth that drives countries to be duped by war mongering despots, not an excess of it. Hitler, for instance. Maybe I should add the Falklands as well. :)

Just what you would expect from a Murdoch mouthpiece and a likud supporter. Any how, the Golan Heights are Syrian territory even Israel's paymaster, the US, cannot deny this fact.

There'll be no shooting war over Taiwan. The Chinese could have taken Hong Kong at any time without shooting or even causing an international incident which could have resulted in shooting. (By turning the water off!) The Chinese didn't because it was not in their long term interests to ruin Hong Kong.

China will one day rule Taiwan because it will buy it, literally or figuratively by just being incredibly wealthy and dominating trade.

agreed with above - absolutely potty - the Golan Heights are occupied Syrian territory. The UN hasn't recognise Israel's territories acquired since 1967. Sure the Chinese cosy up to regimes like that in Sudan because then need energy supplies - but so what, it's not like they pretend to have an ethical foreign policy.

The Jerusalem Post's job is to run stories that with grab its readers' attention. The international media snores. Why? Because next to N. Korea, Iran, the possible collapse of Iraq and even Hugo Chavez doing his portly Che Guevara routine China making polite noises to Syria simply doesn't jog the needle.

Now when avocados become the world's main source of oil - then Israel will shake the world

U.S. Treasury Holds Disaster Drill in Tampa Bay

http://truthorlies.org/govtarticle0131.html

The Department of the Treasury today held a post-disaster exercise in conjunction with the local community in Tampa Bay. The post-disaster exercise received very little media coverage but has now been confirmed to have taken place, according to the newsroom at Tampa Bay NBC affiliate WFLA-TV. WFLA-TV was issued a press release by the Department of the Treasury and the local county regarding the drill. For whatever reason, WFLA decided that this post-disaster exercise did not deserve much attention and was not covered on their TV news broadcast.

The lack of media coverage is surprising considering the fact that the U.S. Dollar is registering all-time lows against other currencies, there are fears of a U.S. Dollar collapse and institutions like the Bank for International Settlements are warning of a possible global depression. The Department of the Treasury holding a post-disaster exercise of any sort is in fact extremely significant, considering the current problems with the U.S. Dollar. The language of the press release states that the purpose of the exercise was to test the ability of financial institutions, federal and state regulators, state and local government officials and state and local first responders to quickly get to their feet after any disaster. This is opened ended and indicates that this could have been a drill to prepare for any number of disasters from terrorism to a natural disaster or an economic collapse but the main focus clearly revolves around the financial community. The question is why the focus around the financial community? Are they preparing for something that we don’t know about?
