A different drought this Summer in Sussex
The Argus: Estate Agents Fear Property Drought
This quote is magic... "I'm not sure what's causing the problem in Burgess Hill, maybe it's just that everyone is really content where they are."

Noticed this as well elsewhere, nobody is buying and little if any new (used) properties are coming on the market, although there is loads of non-estate agent advertised discounted new-build on offer, other than that everyone appears to have stopped playing housey housey musical chairs.

Could be people dont want to move in an unccertain market unless they really have too, i wonder why that might be?
Surely its obvious why there will only be houses for sale "That have to be"

Isn't this just "talking up the market". It's advertising properties in the area by another name.

"maybe it's just that everyone is really content where they are" (Bitter laughter)
Have you considered that perhaps a lot of people have been bled dry and are now financially nailed into their tiny hutches?

This area is characteristic of many where house prices have escalated beyond the reach of local salaries.
Its also on the outskirts of the London commuter belt but less desirable than, for example, than the neighbouring attractions of Brighton or Hove. Live there and that commute will cost you a handsome £360 for a monthly travelcard...
