kyodo: China becomes top CO2 emitter, overtaking U.S.
Tony Juniper, from the environmentalist organization, Friends of the Earth, said China's "rocketing" carbon dioxide emissions are a "cause for global concern."
"Preaching to them (the Chinese) about cutting pollution won't work while Western countries are still increasing theirs. Furthermore, China's emissions are linked to the manufacture of products that are being consumed in the West. We need to look at the overall levels of consumption worldwide, and not just the impact of individual countries," he said.

Oh yes, and one more thing. If any of those anorak wearing jobless greenpeace protesters that are used to protesting in the west go over to China, they may find that they deal with protesters differently over there. How many students were crushed by army tanks while they were sleeping at the Tinaman Square protest? Who even cares? It's funny how things get forgotten.
