Squatter gets £3million property

The Times: Tramp wins a Hampstead Heath home

A tramp who squatted for 20 years in one of London’s most expensive suburbs has been awarded the deeds to a plot that could be worth £3 million.

Harry Hallowes, 70, now owns the 60ft-by-120ft site on Hampstead Heath in North London, after a three year legal battle. He has lived there in a tiny shack since 1986.

Mr Hallowes said: “This has been my only home for 20 years. I absolutely love it here. I always expected to be given the deeds."

In the day and age of lack of affordable housing, a tramp can live in a 60ft by 120ft space for 20+ years without being challenged...

He's made £100,000 a year for the last 20 years for doing nowt, Although the risks were high in many respects - sitting in a shack on Hampstead Heath drinking White Lightning whilst avoiding rustling bushes and men with moustaches!
