Sensible talk at last!

Guardian: Talk is cheap

We don't manufacture anything any more. Most of the world won't buy our records or watch our films. Only our gift of the gab is keeping Britain's economy ticking over. But how long can the hot air last, ask Larry Elliott and Dan Atkinson

This is exactly the picture that I have got about the Brtish economy. I am glad to know that at leaset there are two sane economists in this country. Particularly the front cover of the book is outstanding!

Best quote of the article:

"The essence of successful bullshit is that the really top-notch exponents not only manage to convince others but also manage to delude themselves"

Seems like a realistic assessment of this country.

Just watch TSHTF when North Sea oil and gas 'are effectively all over by 2020' ( see Dept.of Trade & Industry website).

Working in engineering I have watched perfectly good companies shoved down the toilet by globalisation and the deliberate 'buy and shut down' policies of French and German companies. I shall buy this book as some light reading on my hols, if it gets too depressing I might not come back as it seems to confirm everything I have come to realise over the last 5 years or so.

Unfortunately an economy built on the housing market and consumer spending is eventually doomed to failure of catastrophic proportions.
