F***ing disaster or a future leader?

Channel 4: Gordon Brown: Fit for Office?

Channel 4 programme "Dispatches" tonight profiles future Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Senior figures within the Labour party have accused Brown of being a "control freak", another said he was, "psychologically flawed" and one serving cabinet minister has said he would be a "f***ing disaster". Over a nine month period the Dispatches team have interviewed cabinet ministers, MPs, top civil servents, economists and friends to examine more closely the negative claims directed at the Chancellor and future PM. The programme is on Channel 4 8.00pm tonight.

As I have said recently on this site, how can this man say he is going to make the NHS a priority? isn't that what him and Blair have been spending our money for past 10 years............

Hold on! If he is willing to make the lack of affordable housing a central issue when nobody else is, then maybe he worth a shot.

Remember, if there is one thing we have all learned over the last 10 years it's how cheap talk is, actually doing things and achieving results is a totally different ball game that most politicians including Brown are incapable of.

He is shamelessly dishonest, and for that he does not earn my respect or approval, but it is interesting to note his attention to housing at this stage.

He uttered some very fine words about the need to avoid another housing boom before Labour were elected in '97. Since then he has barely uttered a word on the subject - until now...

Is he serious? Did the vested interests in the Blair camp prevent proper attention to the issue of supply and demand?

He's got the leadership in the bag, but whether he'll get re-elected in three years time is far from certain - does he want the 'Brown Brownfield Building Boom' to be his one major legacy?

Slightly off topic, but just bumped into this on a US web-site and had to share it. Just shows us what we have to look forward to:

"
Talk about delusional sellers, check out this quote! It is from Mike Thomas’ blog in the Orlando sentinel from 5/9. Honestly people, I couldn’t make up material this good…

“If these sellers would stop lowering the price of their homes and start going up on the prices again, I’ll just bet you the market would start busting again. It irks the hell out of me when you see all of the publicity of, sales down, prices down, etc: the buyers are of course going to sit back and wait for the prices to fall more and the market will stay down. The real estate sales people need to start advising the sellers to go up on prices instead of going down, and the media should start printing positive publicity. Our house has been on the market for 6 months now and it has only been shown 3 times. It is a very nice home and if it is ever shown it will sell. In the mean time we sit on it and listen to the negative of it being a buyers market. Well, to heck with the buyers market, I think it is time it should be the sellers market again and only the sellers can do it. Let's go up on prices again and just show the buyers they waited to long.

Sad, but funny.

Harold

It isn't sad. It is what Kirsty and Phil will be saying when the crash eventually happens. (Whatever a crash is, anyway).

uncle tom, how much will 'Brown's Brownfield Building Boom' cost us?

Just look at the extra over cost of the Olympics. This involves major brownfield redevelopment. In Building magazine it was reported the government would not listen to the American consultant/project manager who warned them of the cost of develping the brownfield sites. He resigned due to his client burying their heads in a bucket of sand......

That man has brought this country to it's knees. While Blair has concentrated on the war on terrorism and carving his name in history, domestic issues have been dictated by Brown's control of HMT. The stealth tax burden in this country is incredible. He's all smoke and mirrors. He has ridden a wave of fortune in the form of the growing global economy and has made damn sure he takes the credit for that here in the UK. The fundamental issue remains. Greedy investors want to pile their cash into more and more property. As soon as these things are built they'll be getting snapped up. They'll also be the usual crappy construction and will remain horrendously over-priced for what they are. The only way to stop this is for the market to cease being a viable investment opportunity, and the only way for that to occur is for those investors to get their fingers burnt. There is only one way this is going to end and it will be catastrophic collapse. It is just a matter of time.
