Repeat of docklands in the late 80's early 90's

The Independent: City boom lifts new-builds to 13-year high

Quote:

"There are also plans to build 160,000 new homes in the Thames Gateway"

Just as these are being completed in 2009-2010, house prices will be falling badly leaving a dockland's style ghost town like in the early 90's

"What's more, supply and demand factors can help justify the 205% rise in UK property valuations over the past decade: sluggish rates of housebuilding on one hand, and high levels of migration on the other."

A superb example of unattributed opinion dressed up as factual statement. This excerpt is sandwiched between two quotes, - one from Mervyn King and the other from Paul Ashworth from Capital Economics. It purposefully disguises the fact that it is the editors opinion, not Swervin Mervyn's or Paul Ashworth's.

If the writer Sam Fleming had even looked at last week's newspaper they would have noticed that this cannot be true because Eddie George admitted that the boom was nothing to do with supply and demand but a policy to keep interest rates low to overheat the housing market.

I suspect they won't even get off the drawing-board.
