BTLers feel the pinch

LandlordExpert: The Landlord Association calls for the government to take action to protect landlords

"[A BTLer said:] "When I add up the amount I have lost in unpaid rent it makes me sick. I am in a position now whereby I am better off selling my portfolio rather than offering myself up to unreliable tenants and more loss". He highlights a problem almost all landlords have faced or are facing currently." ... I am sooo sorry about these hard-working BTLers, but what do they worry about? they are in for the capital gains, sure not for the rent

"Protect us from our customers!"

I do hope the government doesn't take this seriously.

People who own their homes and then have more houses to rent out do not really deserve sympathy or help.

That depends upon the number of BTL-ers in marginal wards - or am I too cynical?

Perhaps the problem would be most cost-effectively solved if all the BTL-ers sold their portfolios? On dear. Such logic would trash Gordon Brown's economy. Soooooo sorry.

Bring in "Right to Buy" legislation for tenants of private (BTL) landlords, and better, more secure tenancy agreements than Shorthold Protected Tenancies! Should take the steam out of the market.

Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but soon, there will be blood-bath over bankruptcies and a whole generation bought and paid for through cheap credit and multiple accomplices!

But good article as it does show the volatility of the market

Don't these idiots realise that they are in business! In business you sometimes get people who dont pay. I could have bought a house (seriously!) with all the money I didn't get paid over the last 20 odd years in business, but that's life. You just have to price accordingly. Having said that, I'd be very happy to see the return of debtors prisons (b*st*rds..), but no amount of lobbying is likely to bring that about...

Oh diddums! Poor BTLers I feel sorry for you (not!). Sorry but it serves you all right! Putting up house prices by buying properties on masse with mortgage deals which rely on somebody else paying for your 'investment' and putting house prices out of reach of a large majority of people. You're getting your come uppance and quite rightly so. Invest somewhere else which is not affecting people who need a secure roof over their heads!

Regulation? Excellent idea. Then let's go all the way and introduce rent controls! Great for tenants in Germany, etc. No? Then bog off little boy and don't play games for the grown ups!
