You can't fool all the people all of the time

Telegraph: Brown losing touch on economy, say voters

Gordon Brown is losing his reputation for economic competence. When voters were asked which party was likely to run the economy well, 30 per cent said the Conservatives and 27 per cent Labour. At the 2005 election, Labour had a commanding 22-point lead, with 49 per cent regarding them as economically competent compared to 27 per cent for the Tories.

The Leadership refusing to accept the reality of the situation in the cosy comfort of the bunker while the soldiers at the front know the grim reality of the situation. The forces of reality are gradually closing in. What will the final days of the Labour Reich be like? Will there be a post defeat trial for crimes against the economy a year later? Or will some of the crooks escape to South American Banana republics? An interesting period coming up.

at last - is sense returning to the world - Brown is a liar and a cheat, and a THIEF. Too little too late on the ground though. Big mess coming up on the road and the brakes have failed!

Lets be honest, a Tory government would not be a lot different, they would still favour big business and the top 10% but even more so, the average working person does not have any representation in modern Britain, Fancy a revolution anybody? (!)

Plumbase, revolution can be sparked by the smallest thing and snowball's extremely fast. It could happen, even in today's Britain. I don't think there has ever been a time where people have been subject to such high taxes, excessive government control and social breakdown.

Its coming... Its just a matter of time, and I WILL take part.

Trouble is the main parties are too busy fighting over the middle ground - ie. the average dumb briton that knows little about politics and economics.

As a general rule a Conservative government will always benefit the long-term economy more so - by their very nature - low tax, look after business, trickle-down effect etc, but at the expense of public services. Compared to left wing parties who generally benefit the nations social needs - increased spending, better nhs, schools etc, at the expense of the economy (hence current situation).

The British have never managed a revolt, and never will. The times when such a revolt seemed required were conveniently interrupted by wars, pacified by mass culture (football since the late 1800s, Radio then TV, home-ownership from Thatcher onwards) or the occasional bumping off of its own citizens who were a little too exposed. Revolution also requires oppression and starvation, but these are not sufficient.

There is too much of the notion of the accepted way to behave. Too many brooms up arses.

I can't see a revolution coming you need to organise the people in to some sort of force and our society is to fragmented for that, now riots I can see on the cards.

Very little chance of a revoloution here unless people are really down on the uppers (I mean starving and also with no heat or lighting). As long as you provide them with silly soap programmes, X-factor, Big Brother, Tacky foreign holidays, sex and the ongoing obesity inducing decadent lifestyle most people are quite content to be controlled and have their minds turned to mush.

Your right exactly but there lies the problem, the UK always needed the red and the blue to keep things in balance and each to keep the other in check, what we have really had now is 25 years of blue

I do worry that, compared to making a scene, we prefer a cosseted police state.
We would rather be robbed blind than be embarassed.
Perhaps this is the greatest victory - a culture that ridicules and denigrates for a living (whether men in adverts, politicians in the media or just gossipping behind each others' backs) people are now too afraid of being ridiculed so won't stand up.

Revolution is not the way forward. Look at dodgy 3rd world countries, and Russia. It leads to dictatorship, guys and benefits no one except the top brass. Here are some problems: How do you set a government, with guys that have no idea? These people we have in now are trained to deal with governing, good or bad, they have authority to run the country. Who runs the country? What qualifications do they need? Why should they lead? How will they get the military on their side, afterall, revolution is a bloody business! What about all the welfare issues, when this kicks off? Whos gonna make sure the poor and the weak get fed and hospitals funded? Whats gonna pay for all this, £, $??? Afterall the UK financial markets are going to be torn apart along with its currency- it will be worthless. And finally who is gonna bring social order? Theres only one, the military! Like I said revolution is a bloody business, so get ready to die for your pointless lost cause. I can bet your setting up a dictatorship, worse than the last one.

The worst thing we as a nation do is elect the same government two times in a row. Just think how much fun could be have with politicians if we never voted the same lot in twice. They simply wouldn't have enough time in office to mess anything up!

I was thinking of the poll tax riots when I penned the above article, I along with many thousands of others thought we had been completly ignored by the government of the day and decided we had had enough and needed to do something, what happened that day in London made the goverment sit up and take notice, far more than any petition, silly "village hall" type protest, or letter to the local rag ever would, civil unrest of any sort has always put the wind up the establishment. My fondest memory of the day was knocking a policemans helmet off with a well aimed orange! Hold on a sec theres someone knocking on my door.
