Remember how these things could be linked. If a bank has made assumptions on something and a shock event occurs which would cause major losses, the bank will have to call in loans. This will affect many mortgages and force the sale of properties.

The US is so like the last days of the Roman Empire: increasingly stretched abroad, while rotting from within.

It really seems like it, doesn't it Harold. Yet the US public stand by and let it happen as if to say,"It can't happen to us!"

Make no mistake, the only guys suffering from shock will be the Iranians when they see the size of these babies offshore.

IVM, I think the prospect of Iran taking out a US nuclear carrier should fill everyone with dread. I don't think the US response would be 'proportionate'.

........drunk and gloaten on its excesses.

The minds of men were gradually reduced to the same level.
Poet and Laureat was forgotton, the fire of genius was extinguished.
The military spirit evaporated. The masters of the roman world secured their thrones with darkness.
The roman race was indeed puny, unable to free themselves from the legislation and legalities that bound them in shackles and this was to remain until the giants from the northern provinces finally invaded.

The German battleship Bismarck ended being crippled by an obsolete biplane so I wouldn't be to sure about the invulnerability of these US aircraft carriers.

Harold, Andy, that is shockingly reminiscent of the US and its mother-turned-child, the UK.

If I find a good job abroad I will take it.
