Mortgage lending "robust" according to CML and BSA

BBC: Mortgage record broken in January

The council of mortgage lenders (CML) and another body called the Building Societies Association (BSA, no I'd not heard of them either) state that the increase rate rises are not having any impact on the housing market as yet. CML state the lending in January was a record for January but it was also down 6% on December.

So mortgage lenders are saying they have yet to see a slow down in applications following 3 interest rate rises - link to ""We may continue to see robust mortgage figures in the near future, but expect these to fall back as the impact of recent rate rises feeds through," Mr Gill added. "

Until the week before the BoE's MPC meets to discuss the future of interst rates - wait till then before dire predictions of slow downs are published.

Spin - what about actual numbers of mortgages? In a rising market, surely the total value can be larger while the number smaller.
