There are many contexts in which such a computation might be performed. Examples include the determination of the appropriate level of deferred compensation in a legal case, updating the price of a commodity fifty years earlier, and assessment of government expenditure on health care in one year relative to another.

The only way to "release the value" of your hard earned pound is to go to america or australasia and buy stuff. I am very tempted to buy a house in america at the moment as prices are crashing and the pound is almost 2 dollars to the pound so there are probably some bargains to be had. 4 bedroom house in florida with pools go for around 300000 dollars. Maybes aye maybes no.
