Each month, in an effort to get under the skin of the economy, the nine panel members of the MPC are bombarded with graphs, statistics and reports at a special meeting the Friday before they set rates. Here, in the latest of our monthly series, The Times brings you an insight into where the economic winds are blowing.

"most analysts polled by Reuters feel rates have hit their peak". I'm sure you lot will say reuter's doesn't interview respectable economists or something along those lines. If many economists feel they have peaked at 5% then they probably will not rise much higher than 5% . This is superb news for home owners as without high rates a crash is very unlikely.
