I don't think there will be any gloating to be had in the UK as for a house price crash to occur here there would have to be high interest rates and mass unemployment so nobody will be singing out. This is why I believe the government will strongly try and avoid the situation.
Another point is that if you have a decent deposit it can still be much cheaper to pay interest only and rent from the bank than to pay market rental rates. At the same time if you have a decent equity and the market crashes it does not even make you flinch because you can ride it out.
