A long read, but spot on? HIPS and the FTB
Firstrung: Home Information Packs and first time buyers a definitive explanation
Is there more concise and relevant advice on the benefits of HIPS for the FTB than this? We don't think so..=;¬)

I often wonder how many people buy there first house and only view it once. When I moved out of my last rented house because it was being sold the eventual buyer only came around once, scary.
I have often found estate agents to be almost annoyed at showing people around and uninterested (I am sure they are not all like that, just the ones I see..). When people came to view the house I was renting I ended up showing them around while the estate agent came late and left early...
