Full Version: Shortage Of Gold Coins

I first noticed in February 2008 that www.goldline.co.uk/bullionCoinsPage.page was out of stock of several 1 oz. coins (I'd been monitoring them for 2 years up to that point). I hadn't seen this before, even when prices spiked in May 2006.

This situation hasn't changed since, and smaller denominations are also now out of stock.

Today, the shortage appears to be extending to bullion bars.

http://www.goldline.co.uk/investmentBarsPage.page

On Baird's website the 100, 250 and 500g silver bars and 10 and 20g gold bars are out of stock, with a 3 week delivery time.

This is the first time I have seen this happen since Feb 2006.

Dear Metallic, I see that the 1 kg silver bars are from Johnson Matthey and not refined by Baird.

With regards to coininvestdirect I noticed a few days after I ordered some 1/4 ozt britannias, which was a few weeks ago, that they no longer have them shown on their coin page anymore. Instead of saying a particular coin is out of stock, it seems that they delete it from their list.

Has anyone noticed if their stock list has been getting shorter?

Hi - I bought some £25 brits as well and also noticed the shortage.

With regard to this particular coin, the bullion issue is lowish mintage and therefore you tend to see more proof versions for sale on ebay and proof sets.

FWIW, i think buying any brits is a good way of buying gold (no cgt and low mintages).

Check out ebay and see the lack of bullion brits for sale.

I've ordered from Coin Invest Direct (they ship from Germany) without any problems. A German friend who monitors the German marker says that there are delays in delivery. see Pro Aurum (English translation) for regular updates of the German market

ATS Bullion have no more Britannia 1 ounce gold coins in stock.

I guess the gold price fall is more fed manipulation and normal people are buying up all the stocks.

The BoE has no gold left, I wonder how long the US can keep selling gold

Coininvestdirect has virtually been stripped to the floorboards, their silver coin page is looking very thin on stock now and they only have 1 kg bullion bars for sale.

Premiums on silver coins are soaring...

Silver at £6/oz.

Coins (taking off VAT@ 17.5%) £9.16/oz. (on www.coininvestdirect.com)

This is a 50% on 1 oz. silver coins!

1 kilo bars are £268/kilo (ex. VAT). Market price £195....37% premium. Goldline
is even more expensive at £291/kilo, 49% premium

There is a severe disconnect between the physical and paper markets...

ATS Bullion don't have any 1 ounce or 50g gold bars until next week and when I asked them about their pre-decimal sovs they only had 5 coins in stock, 1 X QE2, 3 X George V and a late Queen Victoria with no new stock for a further 3 weeks.

How about this on coin invest direct a 100KG gold Canadian Maple (2007) with a face value of 1 million Canadian dollars (approx £515,0000) with a sell brutto price £1,731,805.86.

Things were very busy in early 2006 for bullion dealers and what I have experienced with ATS and Bairds demand is now even higher. The market is being restricted because bullion is being hoarded, a once in a generation opportunity presents itself for anyone with gold and the big boys know it. Why would they want to sell it today when it's going to be worth a hell of a lot more in a few years.

Bairds has sold all their Britannias even though they had a new delivery of 1oz 2008 Brits.
