I'd like to move my business account to another bank. Any good advice? I've got a RBOS around the corner from me which would be convenient.

You'll find they are all as bad as each other. 12/18 month free banking to hook you in, then they hit you with the charges and monthly management fee. There are good small banks out there eg Co-op, Yorkshire in my area, but any saving on charges will be offset by the fact that they don't have a high density of branches, so you may not be lucky enough to have a local branch.

I spotted their advert as well when I popped in to branch last week to do some personal banking.

You will find a lot of contractors go with Carter Allen - part of Abbeys group

A quick search and review seems they are all pretty happy with the service they have received.

It is hard to tell you who has best business account though when we have no details what you will be using it for...??
Any more details..

If i had to use a business account though, from my time reading contractors reviews - id dive in with Carter Allen unless someone gave me advise as why not to and a better solution.

Thank you very much for the kind replies!

I've found local branches and made a couple of appointments now. Will let you know how I get on.

Hi

I also use Alliance & Leicester Business Bank and am very happy. However, I am an IT contractor and only receive BACS credits from agencies with the occasional cheque and so I don't know what facilities they have for paying in cash.

For my business deposit account I use Bank of Scotland Business Deposit Account which currently pays 5.38%pa ( AER ). The rates drops after one year if you don't transfer your full current account over to them but still pretty good for the first year. There is a 30p charge to transfer money in / out but this is more than offset by the higher interest rates as long as you don't transfer lots of small amounts.

The best bit with this account is that you get an RSA SecureID token which makes you feel really important!!!

We use Natwest and HSBC for our business banking. On the whole, no major problems.

All will treat you with relative disdain until you're turning over £1 million + a year.

We also use Cater Allen.
Very happy with them, you can do transactions via free phone line or on internet.
Plus they pay interest on money in account.
If you have to pay cheque in, you can use RBS banks on High Street (eg we used NatWest to pay in a cheque recently).

I use LTSB. Adequate and nothing special to be honest (sometimes totally inept). If you need to transact in foreign currencies, I would avoid them completely as they have been a total pain.
