Hi orgivan. I think you are comparing apples with oranges here. Your suggestion sounds ideal for the more discerning traveller / retiree. (I think it’s the sort of place I’d like to spend some time.) There are parts of Morocco that also appeal to the discerning traveller / retiree, though these are generally not the parts that we have bought properties. (Most on here that have bought in Morocco have gone for Marrakech or the large facility laden tourist resorts that are being built.)

I’d like to hear more about Lake Atitlan, its surroundings, accessibility, climate etc. A note on health care might be beneficial too.

Can we just not leave these countries alone?? The majority of people who live in Guatemala don't have tuppence to their name and live in shacks (yes I've been there). Don't you feel it's obscene to try and make "investments" in housing in these countries? The Brits and their love of property are already pricing locals out of many poor east european countries.

i am not in britain anymore thank jah rastafari. i live in a traveller valley in spain, but global economics mean spain aint too cheap either. i am not looking for an investment per se, more a better way of life than a slave in 'the control zone' (UK). i havent been to guatemala but i bet there are many more favourable facets as well as negatives than britain. if i can live in a better country than the one i was reared in, then great. if not back to parking tickets, fear, morgages, 9-5 and more crap i dont need or want to buy. viva guatemala (dont know about the health care but we all gotta go sometime)
