Walked beside the bus station to see how the new YMCA building was taking shape. As I walked around the block and back down Surrey St, I noticed a poster stating that alongside the YMCA, new apartments - sorry, I mean flats biggrin.gif - were going to be built on the next plot along.

After the 3 sites by the river and Carrow Road are having problems in getting their properties sold up (and rented out, for that matter), how successful is this one going to be. Looking at the pictures, the flats will look out over Queens Road and others onto the bus station. Nice if there's a buyer who is a bus spotter, I suppose. laugh.gif

A couple of years ago, I lived off Rosary Road - about the time Bertrams Books closed down.

I don't have need to go round that way anymore (better class of hooker elsewhere blink.gif )... So I kinda
forgot that the site has been used for - guess what - flats!

Not just a hanful, but coming soon:- a "New development of 100 plus apartments and town houses".

POA on Rightmove but 1 bed flat fits into the listings @ 160k

Astonishing.

At least they're building things, I'm happy as long as stuff is being built.

Doesn't matter how unaffordable and impossible to sell they are at the moment.. at some point losses will have to be cut and people will be able to move in.

Odds are that this will happen shortly after the liquidation auction.

Oh yes, not much has happened on the site @ the Nest, Rosary Rd for over a year. Properties were supposed to have gone on sale at the end of 2007. rolleyes.gif The site is owned by Hopkins Homes. My guess is that they are landbanking it or they are having problems getting Planning Permission. laugh.gif

I do wonder though if it is right to continue building flats in Norwich. unsure.gif I think 1-5 bedroomed houses are still the best way to go. OK, you won't get as many residential units on a site but at least there is no complicated leasehold issues to sort out either. And each household gets at least a parking space or two and a postage stamp sized garden. smile.gif

Not a lot has happened on the former Bertrams site sleep.gif and they still have an advert for new builds at around the £160k mark. Yeah right. laugh.gif
