Does anyone here know what the FTSE/DOW is being pencilled in for this week assuming we have the BOE bailout announced on Wednesday?

I am hoping for some stability around the FTSE 6000 mark so that I can sell off my last share ISA.

I have been thinking of the pros and cons of keeping the tax free ISA wrapper but, unless I move from shares into the yellow stuff (Can you buy gold in an ISA wrapper?), I think it is best to get out and get into cash this week whilst the FTSE rallies a bit... before another plummet downwards.

Anyone who can predict the market with any degree of certainty at the moment is a very clever ... or lucky... person.

http://www.cityindex.co.uk/ gives a rolling FTSE bet value. Not sure if this is what you are after.

Thanks. I was looking for the 'FTSE Futures' that people often post on here. I don't know where they get the info from.

I think it is shares agreed in price after the market closes that will be bought for that price the next time the market opens. From this people can work out whether the market will be up or down the following day and what the short-term trends are.

If you want to buy gold and commodities in an ISA, look for exchange traded funds (ETFs). My ISA provider (Hargreaves Lansdown) has a good range of hard and soft commodity funds. They're cheap to buy, with low annual charges and no stamp duty.

You can buy everything from gold, to oil, wheat, trees and even pigs. There are some nice index trackers as well. Search your broker's site for for "ishares" or "etfs".

Just watch out though - commodity prices are *very* volatile and there could be a pretty big commodity bubble going on right now.

Don't count on the stock market falling though - some commentators are saying stocks are pretty cheap right now. I've been doing quite well lately.
