Great to see we're first on the list of interviewees!

However, I am continually frustrated by the subjectivity of it all. E.g.

While prices fell for the fourth month in a row over January, nationally the falls only affected 23 per cent of the country, compared to 30 per cent in December, leaving 77 per cent of the country unaffected.

What on earth does this mean?! Who was unaffected, how were they unaffected, where did you get the data from, how did you work this out, etc, etc?!

And I love this bit from a VI "Wriglesworth PR" ...you couldn't make a name like that up! wink.gif

It's a good time to buy as long as you're in it for five years or so, not looking to make a quick buck.

In other words buying now is a cr*p short term investment.

And from Harpenden Savills estate agent,

Asking prices are coming down but that tends to be on properties that were too high to start with. I don't think anyone's being tactical, they're just moving when they need to.

...well stone the crows, i'd never have guessed!!

In terms of making the sheeple see the light facts and figures are our best weapon.

It's quite literally 1 man take on all there....

Apologies if teaching to suck eggs but it's the primacy and recency effect:

It is impressive that such a clear VI (online EA) has given you the first shout, however we are still completely outnumbered by the bulls. sad.gif

If I remember rightly there was very little news of how prices were dropping in the last crash untill it was all over in 96, when I saw a program on how people had lost money in the property market. People don't want to hear about how much their imaginary wealth is dropping, it is a turn off, people litteraly just switch of to bad news that affects them. Once prices are falling year on year the housing market will get forgoten about and the news will move onto much more interesting stuff like who's been murdered today.
The proof of this is in america where some of the school shooting don't even make the news and they would not even consider a debate about how the gun laws should be changed to stop the problem. It's a case of fingers in the ears and sing la la la to any realism that the majority don't want to hear.

I am affriad we will always be known as doom mungers and just not news worthy enough. Rest assured though the smart cookies out there have sold up and are waiting to cash in on property yeilding over 8%.

If you haven't already seen this, then refresh your memory with HPC's very own newspaper property headline archive! I've just discovered this and spent the last half an hour reading it. There's some uncanny stuff:

House prices in Britain are likely to stagnate this year, the Halifax Building Society said yesterday...

Yes good point, I had not seen this. In my defence the quality end of the market is warning people now but the mass media for the morons is still house price mad.

Our stats here at FindaProperty.com showed a 19 per cent year-on-year rise in visitor numbers in January

and in that time there's been a 100% increase in advertised properties. a 19% increase in visitors doesn't cut it really, does it?

Good stuff FP - 35% drops by 2011 will suit me just fine
