I tried to do this earlier online but couldnt so I think im just going to have to cash them in on Monday. Bit of a shame to lose the tax-free status but would be more of a shame if there's a stock market crash and i hadnt got round to cashing them in! Definitely a good time for some profit taking i think...

Its reassuring to know that others are doing the same

Hmm, there are some stocks and shares that do well in recessions... could you diversify?

The China Stock market is still rocketing.

I managed, just, to get rid of all but one share isa back in July just prior to the crash. I didn't go for the last one as it seemed to be confusing the Halifax so I decided to leave it till the others were sorted.

Alas, by the time they were cashed the market had begun it's crash - to be frank, I was also hoping that the FTSE would go through the 6700 mark with the last one also - so I have just left it.

I am now sitting here waiting for a bit of stability in order to get rid of my last share ISA. What I learnt about selling PEPs and ISAs is that it is not an instant thing - you have to fill in a form, sign it and send it off so although the market may be up on the day you do this by the time the bank gets round to processing it there may well have been a fall of several hundred points. Hence why I am now waiting for some stability.

I will be selling though ASAP and in the meantime working out how to spread my savings around banks which are not inter-related and/or potentially vulnerable to this subprime lending thing. I won't, for example, be putting any money into Northern & Rock.

Cashed all my peps and isa's in (twelve years worth) just before last christmas and battened down the hatches. Its all sitting in internet accounts at the moment.

It can't be done I'm afraid. What you could do is ask your broker to sell the shares in your ISA, and ask that these remain as cash inside your stocks and shares ISA. Then you could buy back into the stockmarket using that cash at a point in the future whilst retaining its tax-free ISA status.

The main caveat is that the interest rate of cash in S&S ISAs is terrible (usually 1% or so) and is subject to a 20% tax (taken automatically) and you'd have all the dealing fees involved with selling your shares.

I know it wasn't exactly what you were asking, but it's an option.
