Hi Folks, I'm from Northern Ireland, so alot of the banks usually mentioned are not available here bar the big ones.

I have £11,000 in a basic Bank of Ireland current account which offers very little interest if any

What would be the best type of accounts to put this into. I would like to keep a few thousand in an easy accessable account incase of emergencies

Thanks

I don't know what's on offer in NI. So some of the below might be irrelevant.

You need to do some research on Moneysupermarket.co.uk and moneysavingexpert.co.uk but for what it's worth Bank of Ireland has a limited withdrawals (I think) instant access account at the UK Post Office which I think pays 5.5% gross for a limited period including bonus, see leaflet in most POs for details.

I would not put more than £30K into any one institution.

National Savings www.nsandi.co.uk don't usually have as high an interest rate but money is supposedly 100% safe there.

As with any info you read here, do your own research to verify all facts, figures, terms and conditions before doing anything!

Best of luck and welcome smile.gif

What's stopping you going for an internet bank account like ICICI?

I'd be tempted to go for an international account as Jason suggests, Icesave seem to be pretty well thought of and offer a decent IR.
