Hi,
can somebody help me I have a few questions on ISAs
1) can I open a mini ISA, not fund it and open another one with another firm fund it and trade as normal or have I blown my chance?
2) Originally my wife had a life ISA thing with the CIS, she only puts £25 per month, now that it has been rolled into the shares element can I put say £3000 into shares and leave the rest or does having the life thing in an ISA wrapper not allow me to use another ISA wrapper - if that makes sense?
3) I have an Invesco fund that I do not want to hold anymore (maxi) how can I switch it out to a selftrade account - is it possibly?
4) one more question can i fund a seltrade account now with cash but trade it after April 6th?

Cheers

Sorry don't want to get into a big debate with all those questions , i use hargreaves lansdowne discount brokers , they will help you for free 0845 345 0800 helpdesk , but you must choose your own funds , they are the best finance company including all banks i have dealt with , go to there website and have a look , you can buy over a 1,000 funds at around half a % in ISA's or outside of them they will set you straight , you won't find better . That CIS { co-op }fund of your wifes , i guarantee that will be cr@p , good luck .

1) I don't know for certain, but I opened a self trade isa this year, decided to go for something else and opened another isa with another providor. Never funded the selftrade isa, didn't close it for a while and haven't experienced any problems. The ISA providors don't seem to check amongst themselves or dynamically with the taxman, but they probably lodge each one with the taxman and you'd get in trouble eventually if you funded & used 2 in the same year.
2) You have your isa allowance, your wife has her own separate one. 2 different things.
3) Yes, possible to switch but you can't just take the money out. You need to contact the new providor and get them to do the transfer, preserving the wrapper.
4) Yes, you should be able to.

1) I've done a similar thing as LargelyIgnorant, opened an iDealing and a selftrade mini stocks ISA as a hedge in case they didn't get their act together and open my account before the end of the tax year. Of course, I've only funded one of the accounts though (SelfTrade). I think iDealing wanted me to sign something before they'd open my account too.

4) And just to be sure, yes you can. However the interest rate on cash balances in ST is a paltry 0.75% and cash balances within a S&S ISA are not tax free.
