anyone have any views. Not as a pure investment just as somewhere to live away from the UK madness.

Hi Nest

AFA Burgundy is concerned, been there a couple of times and liked it a lot.

However, bought in the Charente (near Cognac) last year (run-down roperty, loads of work etc. etc.) and can honestly say I'm looking forward to moving out there in the VERY near future.

Tax system is a bit harsh though (Inheritance, Capital Gains, Wealth Tax) but cost of living seems lower overall. Also, not an easy country to start a business in unless you're a professional with easily-transferrable skills or can work online from anywhere.

As usual, careful planning and realistic budgets are the order of the day.

Bon Chance!

Burgundy is lovely, central to most tourist spots in Europe. Long, hot and humid summers, varied winters but generally shorter than you'd expect in the UK. A good mate of mine bought himself a fixer upper near Chalon Sur Soane. He and his family love it, I've visited him and if I weren't already having a love affair with Germany and Sicily I could have been tempted sorely. I will ask my mate for the contact details of the estate agent he used if you wish me to.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
