This is the current situation in USA:

http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com...rd-landing.html

The causes which led to this are similar to what has happened in Europe, Africa, Asia. Armies of real estate agents have lured people in buying
over their means and the outcome will be a possible very ugly crisis everywhere.

Of course, people who invested when prices were very low made a fortune. When I say "investment" I refer to purchases done after watching
"A place in The Sun" or other manipulative TV shows...

Well, Thailand was under "you name it". Of course one sound investment. laugh.gif

One could expect same possible "developments" in Morocco, Egypt, Cape Verde, even Turkey

Recent events in Thailand could make things interesting. I imagine house prices will suffer, but that creates an opportunity to get in at a low price. (I'm not suggesting it would make a good investment, just realise that buying in is likely to be cheaper for those negotiating price a little further down the line than those that negotiated a couple of months ago.)

I just came back from a trip to Thailand. The politics in that country are such that coups d'etat happen but because of their beloved King, there never really is political instability in the same way you would expect from military uprisings in South America. It seems like no matter who those in power are, they all seek for the blessings of the King and he has the power to mend disagreements among political factions much in the same way he has done in the past.

Thailand is a great place to retire. It's cheap, has beautiful beaches, good infrastructure, has a huge expat population and understanding English by the locals is usually not a problem. I expect real estate there to not be affected at all by the coup and if it does, it will only be very short term.
