My wife is Colombian and we've been thinking about buying a small apartment in Bogotá.

Does anywhere have any idea at all where we might find any kind of historical data for house prices there?

I also been thinking geting myself a pad in Bogota.
The website I found to be very useful is www.metrocuadrado.com
Let me know how you are getting on with buying a place there.

Yes, metrocuadrado is the site we've been looking at too, though its such a crappy site that it drives me crazy after a bit. Estratos 5 and 6 tend to be pricy - by Bogotá standards, anyway -- and the utility bills will reflect that too. But there seem to be some very nice apartements in Estraos 4 and even 3. Pick your barrio with care, I suggest!

We'll be over there again at the end of the year and we're investigate what the mortgage situation is then. Given the historical trend of the COP I think a mortage there is a good idea -- and buying for investment not. My wife is suggesting I should take Colombian nationality to make the process easier -- which apparently is easy for UK citizens due to the assisatance given to Bolivar by British mercenaries(!), but I'm not sure what the tax, or other, implications of that might be.

My main concern is what the direction of house prices there might be. A number of years ago almost all construction projects appeared to be on hold: half-finished apt blocks all over the place. Now you can't move for new builds, apart from the strange parking lots you see all over the place which I think result from demolitions and seem ripe for development -- most odd.

Our feeling at the moment is to buy between K7 and the circumvular, somewhere between Cl 30 and 80, but close to a decent supermarket. Broadband is a must-have too which might constrain the area: to be checked.
