Can someone explain how Wimpy is trading at a P/E of 5.3 - I realise that number's based on past dividends, and it's issued a few profits warnings recently, but that strikes me as undervalued

Bovis and Balfour seem to be on 7.6 and 8

Shares in George Wimpey led the housebuilding sector lower in morning trade on Tuesday as it cautioned that its UK business was weak, with first half sales rates per site down 17.5 per cent year on year, despite being on 10 per cent more sites.

" If turnover is -17.5%, profit is likely to be down at least 25%, so the historic p/e of 5 or whatever goes out of the window, and current p/e is looking more like 7 or 8 with deteriorating market conditions. "

That's how the city thinks - sometimes they are right.. more often than not they are wrong!
