Full Version: Is Bulgaria A Good Place To Escape To ?

It is to become part of the EU soon. There is already a lot of property development underway geared for Brits, see http://www.bulgariandreams.com/

In Bulgariandreams you can buy a property before it is built. I would never trust the builder in this situation. It would be good if there was a Bulgarian expat message board somewhere so i could get unbiased info.

Incidentally just down the road in Hungary there are a huge number of dentists running a thriving medical tourist industry charging less than half of UK dentist rates.

If you want an exposure,
without buying a property, have a look at AIM-listed

Cheap doesn't mean good...it means cheap!

I reckon those that have bought in Bulgaria will get a right royal one up the tradesmans' once it all goes pear here. In much the same way that it's the council flat junk in scarey areas that get caned the most in a housing downturn, it's junk countries like Bulgaria that'll get hammered when Brits are forced to sell up cos they're hurting here in the UK.

then there's the lack of any true regulation, planning, transparency, orderley market...not to mention irked locals, bully boy mafia, crime * weird local customs....a bit like buying a council flat in Liverpool as it goes.

It will, of course be far worse in chavlands like Bulgaria.

They dont have the history and tradition to carry over respect for property that we do.

Once the brits stop compliantly giving them 1000 x annual wages for a concrete bunker converted from a missile silo or tortue chamber see what they do.

Expect to lose it all AND get fined / have small body parts removed without anastethic.

"They dont have the history and tradition to carry over respect for property that we do"

TRUE:
+ The dont have the debt culture, many properties are owned without debt,

+ As you probably do NOT know, ownership of property was allowed (on a limited basis) thru communist times

+ Most Bulgarians work hard and are well-educated (which you cannot say about all Britons)

Different culture and tradition, better able to cope with a global debt crisis

The Bulgarian market depends on them entering the EU, along with Turkey, recently with the No votes from France etc there has been widespread reporting that there is little chance that the main players in the EU will allow any more countries to join any time soon.

Imagine Bulgaria outside of the EU in at least the medium term, I certainly wouldent invest there, crap economy, corruption, wouldent touch with a bargepole. sad.gif

As I understand it, it has already been agreed that Bulgaria will join the EU in 2007 but Turkey is much more speculative and will have to wait 10 years at least.
