  1. It does appeal from the park side point of view. My wife is not such a fan of the countryside, more of a city girl so it may not be so good for her. Another option would be to move a bit further out to somewhere like Chelmsford, which I only hear good things about. In journey time there somewhat similar, the major downside being train vs tube fares. Anybody got a view on Chelmsford vs Hornchurch. My wife will have a baby in a few months so we're thinking about schools etc.. also.
  2. Anybody know much about Elm Park / Hornchurch? Seen a 3 bed semi-detached in Elm park with a garden and garage for 250k. However, Elm Park itself seems pretty much a large ex council estate with nothing much going on. Two country parks make it a more attractive but it is a bit far out and I worry about re-sellabilit? Any advice welcome!!
  3. I'd say about 250k. Ideally would like a house in an ok area but obviously I'm not sure if that's possible..
  4. Hi there Anyone know East London along the central or district line and have likes / dislikes, e.g. Loughton, Hainault or Upminster. Was going to buy in Bethnal Green area but seems like the Olympics has given a heft to E Central London prices. Thanks
  5. Yeah there is a certain amount of truth in the village malarkey, there's cake shops, mini'ed estate agents and bourgeoisnessabounds galore. It's can also be called Victoria Park Village but more prosaiclly as South Hackney. But I think we will go for it as it's right on the park though and otherwise the value of what deposit we have is being inflated away + we're being screwed over by the London rental market. Thanks for the advice, straight to the point as always! :-)
  6. My wife is keen to buy a flat in Lauriston Village east London, a 1 bed for 220k. Not sure whether this over-priced or not as it seems a nice area. Was tempted to wait to see how the economy unfolds but does anybody know the area or have an opinion on whether that 's a reasonable price? Cheers!
  7. I'd put the blame firmly on Pippa Middleton's backside. Brought half the nation to a complete standstill!!
  8. What's the bbc playing at with this talk of 'the downturn', is it trying to make a recession sound funky or something. There's even a swish graphic...
  9. I have no doubt that house price inflation is a major cause of social ills, but it struck me that her major concern is that she can't buy a flat. Lily Allen not being able to buy a flat is only correlated with kids being unhappy, i.e. is not the cause. She didn't really seem to grasp that point, completely self obseessed if you ask me.
  10. As a novice investor, any tips on best way of buying into these and whats a good amount to invest? through a financial adviser? thanks
  11. Ginsters triple vegetarian option - £3.49. last year triple packs were £2.79 at most. Outraged
  12. Hi there - thanks for your advice. Actually i guess part of my thinking is that i'm from north wales and would like to move back there at some point. Town is fairly popular with tourists and house is not far from the beach etc.. Another possibility is that i could buy my sisters out, but then a definite return in terms of lettings would be necessary? Also i'm thinking long term investment wise, so although house prices may fall in the near future, by the time i come to collect my pension (a fair way off yet), should be ok. cheers hoddoi
  13. Hi - was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice on a discussion i'm having with my family: A couple of years ago my aunt died and left me and my sisters a 100 year old detached 5 bedroomed house in a small coastal town in north wales. The property is in a reasonable condition, but needs some maintenance / updating work. My mum wants to keep it as its an old family home but my sisters want to sell the property as they can't be bothered with it and want money to buy their own houses (tho i think they could just about buy without selling this place). In my opinion with a bit of investment i think it could make a decent place for holiday rentals, its in a great location for snowdonia etc.. and there's room for about 8 people (or perhaps 10 - 12 maxed out) with parking for 3 or 4 cars. Is this a practical idea or should i just go with my sisters, i.e. is it a good time to sell and cash in. Thanks hoddoi
