The Masked Tulip Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I was reading last week that, along with the Nationwide, the Britannia is one of the two biggest building societies in the UK? Anyone have any ideas of where they stand with regard to all this subprime lending? How safe they are? Considering them as an option to spread my savings around. Quote

When I worked in the public sector a few years ago, Britannia where very active in this sector with mortgages, car loans etc. As I can't see Gordy sacking public workers they should be O.K Quote

Britannia like Nationwide are a staunch mutual. Whereas all of the 'riskier' banks these days NR, A&L, B&B were mutuals who openly sought demutualisation. Hence, the staunch mutuals are a far safer bet Quote
