Is this thread a dead duck or what? I take it there's not many music lovers on housepricecrash.co.uk?

My life (well 50% of it after I've looked after my wife and 3 kids first) is devoted to music. You can't think about religion, money and politics all the time....can you? I bloody can't!

I'm having another one today:

Killers ~ Bones.

I love this tune.

This thread is well placed in the off-topic forum, it gives some relief to the conspiracy theories and end of the world threads which it is placed alongside!

Love the Killers - fantastic melodies

btw, today i am mostly listening to Thomas Newman - Road to Perdition Soundtrack

I will keep reviving this thread i think because it can definitely hold it's own with the conspiracy threads abound in the off-topic forum (ps if you can't talk about music here where on hpc can you!?!)

Anyway, good music will allways hold it's own.

When it comes to music, good lyrics are my raison d'être; that's not to say I don't like classical or instrumentals, but lyrics can add the meat to the bones so to speak, give the music a voice! (OK bear with me, but would you rather I was talking about the end of the world / religion / racism etc., so you will have to excuse me this indulgence).

Where to start! I will pick one song and post the lyrics that I think are just great and please feel to do the same: well Matthew, tonights song is going to be How Do You Sleep by the Stone Roses.

Now let's get one thing straight here - the Stone Roses are a truly great band, ok they couldn't quite cut it live (I saw them in 89 at Alexandra Palace and in 95 in Liverpool) but on vinyl they were the best thing that happened since the Smiths.

I could have picked something from the debut album for my indulgence but I'm going to pick HDYS from Second Coming because a) it's a great song derrrr and b ) second coming is seriously underated.

I always think these lyrics reflect the bands (squire really) attitude to the tory party at the time especially with regard to the homeless etc - now I could be way off wicket here but if you think different, I would be interested on your take.

Anyway here's the lyrics and I will leave it to someone else to post next, thereby ensuring that I am not endlessly reviving a dead duck!

__________________________

I've seen your severed head at a banquet for the dead
All dressed up dinner, looked so fine
Your shining silver salver so tastefully powdered
With the finest military quick lime

Now try and picture this, as I gave you a kiss
The apple in your mouth slipped in mine
The orchestra played the sweetest serenade
We laughed as we put away your wine

So raise your glasses, here's a toast to wasted lives
May all their ghosts come back to haunt you
And tell you how they died

How do you sleep?
How do you last the night and keep the dogs at bay?
How do you feel when you close your eyes, and try and drift away?
Does it feel any better now?
Does it mean any more when the angel of death comes knock, knocking
And banging at your door?

When all the fun was over, I put you on my shoulder
Took you home, away from it all
Shot down and claimed, mounted and framed
Tastefully hung up on my wall
Are my dreams your nightmares? I hope they all come true
Get off your knees, the party's over
I'm coming home to you

How do you sleep?
How do you last the night and keep the dogs at bay?
How do you feel when you close your eyes, and try and drift away?
Does it feel any better now?
Does it mean any more when the angel of death comes knock, knocking
And banging at your door, at your door?
even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day
