An idiot swimmer has managed to halt the boat race half way through.

What happened to security? And if we can't stop this sort of thing at the Boat Race what price the Olympics ?

How can you secure the Thames. What would you suggest?
The boats need nothing in front of them so the water isn't choppy. Stick a Police boat ahead and it would ruin the race.
Allegedly.

Got it on but the volumes down. What happned? Looking at it though, it looks like the last bastion of old Britain: White, upper-class so-far-from-the-coalface youths with silver spoons in their gobs who think this is what Britain in 2012 is still like. Honestly, if you looked at this and the one in say 1980 or whenever Hugh Laurie was in it you'd think Britain hadn't changed one single bit.

Drain the whole thing, the only way to be sure nothing is lurking.

Indeed there might be a Thames Nessie.
Allegedly.

One of the crews had only one briton on board.

You could have a helicopter gunship blowing swimmers out of the water just in case. High flying drones even.
it is, until it isn't tm

Why has one got a broken oar? Is he the Briton?

One poor guy has collapsed after the race. Restart couldn't have helped. Hope he is OK. Massive strain on the body.

Crazy and nuts race.
Swimmer, broken oar and now collapsed racer.
Allegedly.

Why stop the race? If he is so stupid he deserves whatever happens to him. I assume it got stopped on health and safety grounds and the swimmer will sue as it is his human right to swim in the Thames.

Osborne says; “Printing money is the last resort of desperate governments when all other policies have failed.”

George Osborne December 2008; “Savers and pensioners are the forgotten victims … They are innocent bystanders and it’s simply not good enough for the Government to walk on by."

In his 1997 Budget speech, Gordon Brown said, "I will not allow house prices to get out of control and put at risk the sustainability of the future". He went on to say that he did not want a return to "instability, speculation and negative equity" of the 1980's and 1990's.

If it save one life it will be worth it ...etc etc etc.
We have got into the habit of admiring colossal bandits, whose opulence is revered by the entire world, yet whose existence, once we stop to examine it, proves to be one long crime repeated ad infinitum, but those same bandits are heaped with glory, honors, and power, their crimes are hallowed by the law of the land, whereas, as far back in history as the eye can see -- and history, as you know, is my business -- everything conspires to show that a venial theft, especially of inglorious foodstuffs, such as bread crusts, ham, or cheese, unfailingly subjects its perpetrator to irreparable opprobium, the automatic dishonor, and inexpiable shame, and this for two reasons, first because the perpetrator of such an offense is usually poor, which in itself connotes basic unworthiness, and secondly because his act implies, as it were, a tacit reproach to the community. - Celine

I don't know who this maniac was or his cause. It could be anti-war, anti-cuts, anti-vivisection... don't care... he's my hero.

Take part in a 'legitimate' protest with a just cause and the ruling classes have you kettled in a flash and if you don't like it next comes the batons, pepper spray and tazers.

So smash their tedious little boat race. Tit for tat. Fight back.

Hope this kind of protest plagues the waste-of-money Olympics. Could certainly liven up the ladies' archery semi-final if nothing else.
