Now seems a good time to start one.

I'm not a committed TEOTWAWKI follower but at times over the past couple of years, I have felt it prudent to keep a stock of things so I wouldn't have to go to the shops and mix with the ******wits for a bit. Having seen yet again how people can be such ******wits, this weekend is probably a good time to see what I've got in.

I shall of course be taking stock advice from the Bollinger couple who were in the Daily Fail recently. I suggest you do too.

I have a stockpile of canned goods that would probably last me about a month at a push. I accumulated it mostly because of the winter we had last year and if there was a repeat of it or even worse, it could have come in very handy. Also, with all this talk of petrol shortages (not that i personally think there will be any major petrol shortages) and various other events, I think its probably a sensible idea to have something stockpiled just in case.

More than a years supply of toilet paper. Saves having to fill the shopping trolley with it regularly and 40kg of gold leaf if shtf

Keep a supply of tincture of iodine for water purification issues. I usually add a drop to my cycling drinking water and disguise the slightly metallic taste with a fizzy vit c tablet.

Me too. I don't normally keep much in, so was forced to make a nightmare journey to the nearest shops (usually a 10 minute walk).

The shelves had already been stripped of a lot of useful stuff due to panic buying. Good job I like butter beans.

Actually I don't quite have two years supply! There was a cheap egg deal in Morrissons, and they also sold pickling vinegar!

I thought I would pickle some eggs!

Pickled eggs from the supermarket are ridiculously expensive...

I also buy tinned food when it on special offer, as it does not go off, or require refrigerating!

You'd be looking for chickenfeed pretty quickly after getting your hens. They don't produce eggs from fresh air!


What you need is rabbits = grass to meat converters.

Or aquaponics and keep fish. The fish can be kept in a darkened room to prevent algae build up. Also no need for bright lights as with hydroponic systems.

Doubt you would survive on lean rabbit meat too long without essential fats in your diet.
