Her Cabinet colleague Ken Clarke said he had been "surprised" by the claim and could not believe it was true.

If only she checked her pussy more carefully, she'd never be in such a mess! She was within a 'whiska' of making the whole government look puurrrfectly silly.
I really don't find Theresa fit for her post. She should return to her basket.
The Human Rights Act would not impinge on UK law if we were not in the EU. LET'S NOT PUSSY FOOT AROUND ANY LONGER! We want the referendum Dave promised. Let's have our own Bill of Rights instead.

So the cat ownership was part of the evidence, not the reason.
Right wingers do themselves no favours by distorting the truth and lying. You want the UK to be out of the human rights act? OK, fine. Make the argument based on the facts and tell me which rights you'd like to scrap and why. Don't go lying about it though.

The Convention of Human Rights is not really anything to do with the EU as the ECHR stands alone within its own authority.
Having signed the convention however is a fundamental requirement of membership of the EU.
All in all there is probably not to much wrong with the convention, it was held to be a good thing after WW2 and Churchill did much to advance UK membership of it.
Where it has gone wrong is one lefty judge (remind yourselves who appoints the judiciary, and when this nonsense started) has made an interpretation of article 8 to fit in with his/her view and case law has been drawn upon it. Since that point and with the overall precedent set other ludicrous decisions have flowed from this one fundamental error.
There needs to be some will in central Government to fix this as it can only be done with primary legislation. If the Tories had gained overall authority then that may have been a full bill of rights. Given the Lib Dem hangers on it will no doubt be fudged in some way to accommodate a compromise.

That is mostly right I agree, but it is enforced upon us and interpreted by Judges outside our own jurisdiction in the ECHR. Therefore our own parliament is almost powerless to stop what appears to be a ridiculous interpretation of Article 8 which must then be followed by Judges here. My comment lays the blame on the EU because that is why our pollies are not in control.

Please could you also note that the human rights act has nothing to do with the echr, we have been signatories to echr for decades. The hra was labour legislation which directly emanates from the eu.
We can leave the eu, repeal the hr act and still remain signatories to the echr.
Sorry for lack of caps

The hra was labour legislation which directly emanates from the echr but was absolutely not necessary to be passed into statute law. We did though along with other eu countries.
