  1. Some of anti WFH comments are extreme. My company told us to go back in and I simply refused. It comes down to your net worth. Half of my colleagues are lazy and can’t be trusted; they are merely collecting cheques and ruining team morale. Good workers don’t need micro managing. I’m totally baffled. I thought saving the planet from climate change was the most important thing, so how does me commuting help? I meet up down the pub with the colleagues I like periodically. It’s enough socialising. I conduct and attend meetings on my company phone; it’s superb as many of my best ideas come to me when I’m walking. If my office was full of eye candy I might drop in. If you’re good at your job and don’t want to work in the office stand up for yourself or get another job. Life is too short to live by rules that make you unhappy.
  2. Yes, this makes a lot of sense. It's been easier to import and offshore trained staff to keep the wages low. British work ethic has never been the problem; it's the British governments that create the problems. They want us to fight each other so we don't turn on them. With a general strike looming it doesn't look good.
  3. It's laughable that Rishi Sunak, the unelected billionaire and tax avoider, is begging early retirees to come back into the workforce. Does this deluded guy need another pool cleaner or letter opener? As hotback42 correctly states, successive British governments have thrown people on the scrap heap; it started with the offshoring of professional jobs back in the mid to late 90s. It was a deliberate action. I remember Blair (remember that war criminal?) saying "It's inevitable that more jobs will be lost to offshoring". Then Brown caused the BTL craze by abolishing pension tax relief. British jobs are not very well paid after the excessive taxes which is why Sunak likes to avoids tax and why people like me left the country. I suspect many people have decided to retire early because they see an opportunity to enjoy a few good work-free years whilst they can. Who can blame them?
  4. You stated in one post that you'd lived in Seattle for 3 years but now state you didn't live here after all. Now you've realized you've been caught out and quickly change your story. I knew you were lying when you said you'd lived here because of you have no idea what the weather is like, apart from relying on website information about rainfall. I hope that is clear to you in your made up world. So your imaginary brother lives in Oregon and he knows best about the weather in a completely different place; a place that is surrounded by mountainous terrain that affects weather. Who is he, Stevie Wonder? He too cannot feel the 1000 hours of extra sunshine compared to Manchester and the 2C average temp difference. You can venture all you like. I've ridden motorbikes across most of Europe, backpacked for 2 years around the world, and lived and worked in 4 countries. The difference between you and I is that my experiences are real and not googled from my parent's spare bedroom. May is collaborating with the EU. It's painfully obvious for all to see. I realize it's dark in Manchester, with the reduced sunlight, but even you must be able to see that.
  5. Do you actually read my posts? I've stated infrastructure more than once. Why do you keep quoting 93%? You cannot build on all the land. Where did you live in Seattle? So you're telling me you lived here for 3 years and never noticed the sunshine, that big glowing thing hanging out above you from June through until October? Manchester has a 1000hours of sunshine and Seattle has over 2000hours. So you think Manchester's weather is better even though there's 50% less sunlight. Nowhere in England has more sunshine hours than Seattle, but you never saw any sunshine and you lived here 3 years. Well, well. Your imaginary brother also lives here, but why do we need him to comment, when you lived here, in your imagination for 3 years. During these 3 years you managed to avoid over 6000 hours of sunshine. Meanwhile you managed to get the perfect tan in Manchester over the last 3 years with 3000 hours of sunshine. Facts huh? Don't let facts get in the way. Now who is being disingenuous. Next you'll be stating that your aunt Flo lives in Queen Anne and needs a boat to go shopping, on account of the rainfall. Do you have any other imaginary relatives I might never meet in Seattle? I guess I'll see them all hanging out between June and October under umbrellas. Yep, right. So most people think I'm a bigot because I use the word Quisling. Are you using the word to mean racist? It seems that most people haven't got a clue what it means, so it's doubtful most people would be able to comment.
  6. Yes, totally agree. I have darker skin than most of the new arrivals, because I spend so much time outdoors. Most immigrants, I've met in England, are polite, and some are well educated and employed below their optimal level. I think only a dimwit would take their frustration out on the individuals; my frustration has always been with the deliberate government policy. The government and big business (same thing) wanted cheap labour. I think the British are amongst the most tolerant people on the planet. They have put up with high house prices, wage suppression, unprecedented immigration levels and a continual drip feed of political BS from the BBC. I don't think the tolerance would be reciprocated elsewhere.
  7. Yes, I did state the irony; just read my original post and stop being lazy. The UK is one of the most densely populated countries in Europe. You cannot expand populations dramatically because it places stresses on infrastructure, which is exactly what has happened since the unprecedented influx. Seattle is known for having the best summers in the whole of the USA. They are perfect and wonderfully consistent. There is almost no rain in the summer. Our rain appears in November but Miami and other cities get way more rain than we do per annum. It hardly ever gets cold here. Please state where your brother lives. Washington State is about the same size as Britain and has extreme climate differences. If your brother lives near the temperate rainforest he may experience 120+ inches of rain, which is like the south west portion of New Zealand's south island; if he lives in the desert regions (yes, desert) then he may receive 7 inches of rain or less. If I want snow, in winter, I can drive up to the mountains and go skiing. I know what Quisling means and already covered that topic and have successfully established that it wasn't a Hogwart's sport. Maggie Thatcher was ousted by Conservative pro Europeans; my opinion is that the very same Conservative party will do all it can to prevent Brexit.....and here we have a Remainer in charge of the wonderfully planned exit strategy...or not.
  8. I can agree about the homelessness problem. Seattle's response is to throw more and more tax money at the problem without dealing with the underlying issues. Seattle, like LA and New York, has good homeless services, which attracts some of the homeless people to the city from out of state. From anecdotal evidence I see mental illness and drug abuse as the main problem; the drug users need to be removed from the source of the drugs i.e the city. I was more surprised about the homeless in Vancouver, Canada. A drug user tried to get into my 4x4 while it was moving, which wasn't a good idea. I agree that you don't want to be poor here, although my experience of the UK, which is purely subjective, is that I was rejected for benefits when I needed help, just because I had 10 grand in the bank. They wanted me to drain my nest egg before giving me any help. I would have lost my home. It was about the same time that Blair came on TV and stated "It is likely that British people will lose their jobs due to offshoring". I even had to pay for my NHS visit when I was unemployed; I could either wait 6 months or pay and get immediate treatment. It's all about our subjective experiences in life.
  9. I think people are using the word, in this thread, to mean someone with racial prejudices. i.e. if you are for Brexit you are racist. If you are a Remainer you are a wonderful human being, living a world of unicorns and glitter. Then again, there seems to be confusion between Quisling and Quidditch. I can imagine Theresa May flying around on a broomstick, so I guess it's not a massive leap.
  10. You seriously thought that a commonly used word was contrived by JK Rowling? That's hilarious.
  11. Yes, because LA is representative of the whole USA, like London is representative of the UK.
  12. In my original post I stated it was ironic I emigrated due to immigration. Before sniping, I would urge you to read. As I have clearly stated, immigration is not a bad thing; the unprecedented numbers are the problem. This policy was deliberate. What could possible go wrong allowing without infrastructure planning on a tiny island? The weather in Seattle is superb. I'm assuming you've never lived here? If you did you'd know that the summers are amazing. What has being white got to do with the price of fish? You are bringing out the race card. Why? My anecdotal evidence is that most of the recent immigrants are Caucasian. The Indian post office manager, in my old UK town, is the most vocal Brexiteer I've met. I guess he's white too? Colour has nothing to do with unprecedented immigration.
  13. Your 'virtue signalling' is another form of government mind control. You call me a bigot because I think Theresa May is a quisling? If someone has a difference of opinion to you they must be a bigot? Yes, very logical and part of the reason the country is sinking. I'm not sure I understand your logic, probably because you're unable to use logic. The people voted for Brexit but the exit is being deliberately butchered by the EU's lackey. Theresa May was a Remainer, so it's no surprise. I left the UK and adhered to rigorous US immigration law and paid for the privilege. I have assimilated and respect my new home. I hope you're correct about the UK.
  14. Immigration control, including criminal background checks, are the only sensible approach. It allows for proper assimilation. Blair's divisive policies have alienated Britons. Merkel's reckless policies are sowing the seeds for civil war.
  15. Spot on, it does feel like 2005/2006 all over again. i.e. just before all hell broke loose. Perhaps Gordon Brown will save us all again?
