Cheap Flat In Zone 2 London foxtons
MattW replied to house-down's topic in House prices and the economy
Thank you. This is just an example I saw a couple of years ago. I don't own a 2CV6 unfortunately. I had chances to buy used ones in the mid to late 1990s but they are now serious money now for good examples. The last one I saw for sale was £9,000 on eBay. -

Goodbye leasehold reform - Gove surrenders
MattW replied to NoHPCinTheUK's topic in House prices and the economy
This is a shame as this inaction by the Government will affect me. The lease on my flat is less than 90 years. I still do need to enquire about extending the lease, however. -
5th of UK adults not looking for work

A Job Seeker's Allowance claimant needs a rock solid reason for getting that benefit. I someone was to leave a job for no good reason then that wouldn't work. I found this out back in 2008-ish. Dole stopped after a couple of weeks. Unless there's some other benefit that can be claimed in lieu of JSA? -
Bought a 2 bedroomed flat 6 months ago. If I can make a step up the ladder in the next few years it will probably be a house like in the OP (or a bungalow). Fortunately not as much as £309k!

The job market is collapsing before our very eyes!
MattW replied to Housepricecrash91's topic in House prices and the economy
What again?! Good luck with the new job. Back in December 2022 I was temping. I got around 3 telephone calls from recruitment agencies offering work. Last December there was less interest. Although that might be down to the temp assignment going permanent as they will see on my CV on a few of the job sites. -

The series 1. These ones also have door handles that are the same design as the British Leyland era 1971 Morris Marina*. *joking aside, I have a soft spot for Marinas and Leyland Princesses. -
Barton House High Rise Bristol - Coming To A City Near You
MattW replied to FANG's topic in House prices and the economy
This one in Bristol I understand was built in the late 1950s. I was under the impression that council tower blocks had a life cycle of 50 years. 65 years out of this building is pretty good. Bit of a shame that Bristol Council didn't think to build council homes to replace these decaying flats. Forward planning by councils is perhaps a big ask. -
On Christmas Day there was just a brief chat between me and my niece's wife (I think she's the main earner) that we both have 2 year fixed rate mortgage deals. Seems like both our Financial Advisors recommended 2 year deals as opposed to 5 year ones. Time will tell whether or not we made the right decision.

Thanks for the tip. I think that the current changes of law affecting leasehold affects owners of houses but I do need to conduct more research into this.

Countdown to leveraged BTL going bust thread
MattW replied to jiltedjen's topic in House prices and the economy
Regarding the 2 bedroomed flat I bought he's done very well in terms of capital appreciation. Only the bare minimum has been done to it in the 21 years he owned it. Last tenant was paying £650 a month. There was a mortgage on it while he still owned it. -
Countdown to leveraged BTL going bust thread
MattW replied to jiltedjen's topic in House prices and the economy
Seems like the chap I bought from exited the BTL pyramid scheme just in time. The flat I now "own" was the 7th property in his BTL portfolio. And for extra altruism points, I handed the keys back to a council flat when I moved in.
