Even then, the download figure is not proof that a system has been hijacked. I assume that they probably count all safari hits as mac, it's fairly easy to detect browsers using javascript. Because it is so widely believed that malware simply isn't an issue for Mac OS and Linux, I suspect that most users of these operating systems haven't done anything about protecting themselves, because they think they don't need to. That's the impression Mac users tend to give The Mac has gone mainstream so now its a target.
