Executive Sadman
Yes, the party of the warmonger Bliar, and (and i still think this) Brown, the worst chancellor in history. Nonetheless, i think once milibore and ballsup are out the way, it could be a salvagable party. Some of the pre-kinnock stuff is still there IMO. thod
When you look at the numbers you find that the candidate will be chosen by the 300 members of the constituency party. Since it is a safe seat, these 300 are effectively choosing the MP. Thus there is a strategy. Get a bunch of mates to join the party and vote yourself a candidate that shares none of the values of the old members. A simple hijacking. I suspect this is what already happens. Those 300 will be members of both parties. They do so in order to ensure they choose the MP no matter who wins.

leigh delamere
Would you care to try and defend Labour's illegal war then? Do you really think the world would be a better place with a psychopath still controlling the second-biggest source of the world's most valuable commodity? And don't forget the Conservatives supported the Iraq invasion too. However, having been a member of the Labour Party for a few years prior to the 1997 election I would have no desire to rejoin now. bankfeeder
Well done to the OP for sticking his neck out. Shame about the juvenile drivel that has characterised the rest of the thread so far. I used Google translate with the source language set at Smug Socialist and the destination language as English (England). It came up with Who was that woman? It's ridiculous! I mean... what a bigot. Who was it? Jenny? Anyway, where's the Champagne...

I just cpuldn't.
Superted187
It would take a lot for me to ever vote for Labour. They did nothing to prevent house prices from blowing up to the levels they are at now. I blame them for my current living situation - crap, overpriced rented accommodation. How can anyone that's a victim of the current property bubble ever vote for Labour?
EUBanana
Labour = fascists. Shooting Brazilian electricians and promoting the officer responsible concerned, relentlessly assaulting civil liberties for a decade, more laws, more fascism. I remember Jacqui "the Jackboot" Smith well, and the lunatic Brown, combined with public sector troughing on grand scale. Benito would be proud. I would vote for literally anybody on offer over them. Theyre all fascists to some degree. The unfortunate fact is that people in this country lack the vision or will to vote outside of the Liblabcon box. Its pathetic, but thats the way it is. Must vote labour or the tories will get in. Must vote tory or labour will get in. Its absurd given the current non-existent differences between them, i know. The media, politicians, academia have pretty much closed any avenue for a new political force to emerge, thats why I think its best to steer the current parties in a more positive direction. The media, politicians, academia have pretty much closed any avenue for a new political force to emerge, thats why I think its best to steer the current parties in a more positive direction. I admire your optimism but you may find it like being a flea trying to steer a dog. The fundamental problem with all political parties is that they need to tackle a large variety of issues but the members rarely (if ever) all agree what should be done, sometimes they actually agree with a different party. It negates the point of being a unified body - it can only truly work for simple single issues. So it adds in an extra layer of bickering, backdoor deals, and threats. Tribalism between the parties muddies the water further. Politics looks evermore foolish and puts off more rational people getting involved. Downward spiral. God it's depressing. 1929crash
In forty years of voting I have only once voted Labour in a local election, and that was to stop a truly loathesome character from another party from winning. Any HPCer living in south Wales would realise what amorally corrupt bunch of self-seeking morons the Labour Party are when they become the Establishment. Having said that, I would consider voting Labour if I were in a Labour-Tory marginal or a Lib Dem Labour marginal. But since I live in a safe Labour seat, I probably won't bother. byron78
I did one of those "vote for policies not party's" survey things recently and apparently I should vote Green. Surprised me (and I almost certainly won't). Tories (who I voted for all my adult life) came bottom. UKIP a close second. I obviously didn't even bother looking where the Lib Dems were.
