  1. Prices are dropping but very slowly in area I'm interested in. Good properties still sell in a reasonable time, the dross hangs around and gets delisted eventually. Anthing in between is steadily reduced. The main trend I've noticed though is the number for sale has dropped by a third in the last two years. So not as much choice which is good for sellers of decent places. Unless interest rates rise I don't think anything will change. So my guess for this year is more of the same.
  2. Numbers are down. No surprise with the increase in fees. Third of Britain's elite universities still looking for students Also looks like the smart money is looking to leave: TANNERS & TAYLORS COURT PORTFOLIO 30 bedroom flat for sale .
  3. shocking news from the national press http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/tale-of-two-halves-as-north-suffers-more-than-south-2371718.html
  4. Just noticed this online auction site as they have listed a house that has been unsellable for 3+ years. Their selling point (to the vendor) is that the buyer pays the fees, but at 5% isn't the fee twice the going agency rate? Check the site out below. http://greatnorthpropertyauction.iam-sold.co.uk/ .
  5. A rare dose of plain speaking from an EA. I think this is starting to get serious for them in terms of lack of business.
  6. Not good news but a sign that house prices are on the way down in the NE
  7. There is an option to edit but its better just to post again. Sounds like you are keen on the house. Life goes on crash or not, so enjoy it and do whats best for you. Good luck
  8. Interesting thought. The biggest problem you would find building is finding a suitable plot. A 3 mile search around the area I am looking at turns up bugger all. You would likely be better off extending an existing place with a bit of land, especially if you were wanting to be near services like schools, shops and buses. Our problem mainly revolves around walking access to town centre services. This gives us a choice of a terrace in town or something with a garden further out. With a mil to spend then we'd be looking for the town centre/garden combination. PS - I should mention I have built a house before. Its one of the most stressful things you could embark on. Not saying you shouldn't do it, but don't think it would be a lot of fun
  9. As much as that - how many jobs would that be? This will have a knock on affect to businesses as well as the housing market. Sadly the NE suffers again
  10. I can't think of many NE houses I'd pay a Mil for (assuming I had the Mil) Asking prices in all brackets are still way too high, and its good to see low activity continuing. Its a slow process but we'll get there in the end.
  11. Been making a good living out of Technical drawing and stuff like computer aided design for thirty odd years. Seems like its got good future too: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-12752518
  12. Six years this week for this Topic. Some progress has been made :- http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/apr/02/housing-market-north-south-divide-worsening
  13. Someone taking a big hit here. Number 10 going to auction at 300k. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-27422761.html Paid 425k in 2006 http://www.nethouseprices.com/index.php?con=sold_prices_street_detail&street=WHITEHILL+HALL+GARDENS&locality=CHESTER+LE+STREET&town=CHESTER+LE+STREET&cCode=EW&year=All&house_style=All&house_age=All&search_radius=&outcode=DH2&incode=2NE
  14. I am seeing a lot more reductions in areas I'm watching. A long way to go though, another 2 years I'd guess, as long as we see rising IR's. A lot of patience needed. The NE earnings question has been discussed in this thread. At the very start I think the consensus was 18k but this was challanged as being too high. That was 5 years ago so what are opinions now? (I don't live in the NE so can't really contribute) .
  15. A little bit of desperation here from our EA friends. Looks like they're ready to start cutting each others throats http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-28177177.html?utm_content=ealertsmoredetails&utm_medium=email&utm_source=emailupdates&utm_campaign=emailupdates_sep09&utm_term=buying&sc_id=4687115
