I suppose there have been explosions as long as there's been gas in houses, but there do seem to have been quite a few of these recently.  

I think someone on here mentioned that when someone blows up a building with a bomb it is likely that it'll rupture the gas main. So whoever is investigating the blast can mention the ruptured gas main and let people make their own conclusions buying some time to do an investigation/cover up (depending on the amount of tin foil wrapped around your head).
