Instagram blocked in China to limit exposure from Hong Kong and particular hash tags blocked on Weibo. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/29/instagram-blocked-china_n_5896696.html?&ncid=tweetlnkushpmg00000067
stormymonday_2011
It appears the UKs commitment to democracy does not include is former subjects in Hong Kong. Cameron's craven silence on the subject tells you all you need to know about him as a politician and a man.

stormymonday_2011
It's called diplomacy and what should his response be? He might try to get the 1997 Treaty terms honoured. After all the British government was a signatory. http://ukconstitutionallaw.org/2014/08/11/mathias-cheung-the-hong-kong-governments-proposed-electoral-reform-violates-the-basic-law-and-the-sino-british-joint-declaration/ The locals clearly think Cameron has sold them out http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/30/hong-kong-accuse-cameron-selling-out-china The UK was never very keen on giving the people of Hong Kong democratic elections when it was the colonial power so one could argue no change there then. Cameron's craven silence on the subject tells you all you need to know about him as a politician and a man. The important word being 'former' Why should 7 million people in HK expect greater democratic rights than 1.3billion in the rest of china? Or is political apartheid the in thing now? We should either support democracy for all in China, or let the Chinese get on with it. Double standards isn't a nice trait.

Errol
A Ukraine-style attempt by American/Western financed 'democracy' groups to attack China at a weak point. China isn't weak and will respond appropriately. They know exactly what is going on here (Putin and Xi speak virtually every day). This will merely accelerate efforts by the BRICS, and others, to exit the Western financial systems.
