This SMF report provides an in depth analysis of the state of the private rental sector in the UK housing market. After declining steadily through much of the 20th Century, the private rental sector has been in revival since the early 1990's, offering a viable alternative to owner occupation and social housing. However, many views of the sector remain unfairly pessimistic, and government regulation unfavourable.
