MattW
The Earlham House Flats have been discussed on the East Anglia subforum before. I thought that this blot on what is otherwise a rather nice part of west Norwich deserves it's own thread. Built in 1971, the precint of shops with flats above them have been neglected over the last few years. The customer car park for the shops had an almost permanent puddle lake in the middle. This has been sorted now. The previous freeholder did bugger all maintenance so Norwich City Council forced them to do the necessary work to make them habitable. A few of the flats have been found to be too cold for habitation when the Council dones some investigations. This forced a sale of the block in December and now the new owners, Bellgold Properties, are now going to refurbish the block. The trouble is that it will mean evicting 40 tenants from their homes in two months time. Owner of Earlham House flats responds to criticisms There are 84 flats in the block. I would have thought that refurbishing the vacant flats first and then moving the existing tenants into these would be the better course of action. And keep their rent the same as a reward for being loyal tenants.
MattW
Looks like they are now being sold off on 99 year leases. 1 bedroomed flats... Most of them were studo/bedsits. I wonder if these have been knocked together? Earlham House £94,950 Might keep an eye out for an open day and go along.
