And maybe you could be a little less sarcastic to other posters instead of coming across as a clever dick; it gets a tad tedious esp when posting as much as you do.
Btw its spelt riveted.

Personally, I hope this kid's loaded and that he doesn't waste any of it.

I hope he's listening.

I'm useless when it comes to investments and how to protect your money, but I can help when it comes to living efficiently and avoiding 'flash'.

Perhaps you and the other smart alec could get together - you would both have so much to talk about!

It's considered bad form to criticise spelling/grammar on a forum dear boy, especially when you are not syntactically perfect yourself. For example in your above post its should be it's and it's bad practice to start a sentence with 'and'.

You see? Nitpicking is tedious - just some friendly advice :P

Thanks to Einstein71 for his opinions which are very helpful as my son is soon to have a cheque close to £200k drop through the letterbox from his grandfathers estate. My son is terrified of having that amount of money sloshing about.

Obviously he's concerned that while waiting for the housing market to shake out he doesn't want these savings to be eroded by inflation. As he will be using the money to purchase a home some time in the future isn't it be better to worry about maintaining the value of his savings with house prices? It just seems a bit pointless fretting about losing money to inflation when he's likely to gain in terms of house purchaing power.

Right, I am posting again because I DO feel this site has been very informative for me and I feel I need to give something back, despite the astonishing backlash at me for being "lucky" (which is what I am......and I realise this), and asking a question that was never answered because I felt I had sold "too early".....(turns out it was the perfect time actually).

Anyway, moving on.....

Looked at some houses in the Maidstone area ("where prices never go down" - Sibley). There is sodall around that you would actually want to put your savings/inheritance/lottery money/stolen cash in. It's either shit built new-build shoeboxes or 1mil+ "stately homes" with far more land than I can ever use and a price I could never afford.

The best I've found is a 1930s family house that is JUST within my price range, but i'd be struggling to buy it and it's near an apparently feral school.

I should have kept my 18 bedroom palace I inherited in Buckingham.

EDIT: Er 6 bed in Hempstead......that I rented out to 120 Polish Plumbers.

EDIT2: Forgot to say, I have decided to keep renting for at least the next 6 months.

EDIT3: Last Edit I promise.......a decent size family home in most of the NW is the price of a new build, 3-bed (so one double, 1 ok, 1 cot-sized room) "starter" down here (and I don't mean Chester where most Man U players live....). Sad I know, but there really is a North/South divide. If there wasn't, i'd be laughing and change my status to bull. Edited by Fedup

Eh?

Yes i did inherit a house......As I said, i was lucky.......exactly as someone said "a 5 bed house in my twenties??......" I am NOT a banker/millionaire/whatever. I realise the market is overpriced and I fear for my kids (when I have some) should it continue this way. Inspite of this, I am a higher rate taxpayer (no, not the new 50% bracket), and have a 1st class Masters in Engineering.

I realise I am someone that is lucky in what I consider a very overpriced housing market.

Also, it really isn't hard to track who has posted what......it's part of the functionality of the forum!

Getting seriously negative vibes though, and I am not sure why......I am happy to post my experience for the benefit of others, but if im just going to get abuse then I will just keep quiet. The reason I wanted to post is because I feel that this forum has been very informative for me over the years......so I wanted to give something (however worthless) back. The anecdotals people have posted have been very helpful to me, and I would to like to reciprocate.

If people aren't interested then i will just keep quiet.

Just keep going (posting that is) and ignore the negative vibes - Halifax going positive again has cast a certain amount of gloom after what seemed like the beginning of a rout. News of your windfall was not going to lighten the mood. Edited by Reluctant Heretic

I know, it's the town of Kings.......it's where Jesus was born and Martin Luther King made his great speech......

Why the ****** did I have to put roots down here.....I have a decent job, decent friends, decent life.......but yeah, it's Maidstone.

As I said before, I was vehemently against putting down roots here, wanting to emigrate, but living here for 3 years in the same job, for a pretty decent company, whilst your girlfriend does her Law degree.....sorry nappy management degree......makes it VERY hard not to put down roots here......

so here I am........

I am trying to deal with the situation I am in (which is more fortunate than most)........and relay back to you guys my experiences.......amongst trying to dodge the insults.

Unless someone says something really offensive, apart from the saddo drunks that have nothing to look forward to, or the known trolls that take pleasure in trying to elicite a response as they don't have much going on in their lives, I will tell you how I get on in another 6months, but right now, it's just not worth buying anything, at least for me with the money I have. so lets get this right.

you create a thread saying youve come to a time of life you must buy for personal reasons. Fair enough.

but you feel in spite of all these reasons, you know its a silly time to buy. Fair enough

but nevertheless, you are going to start the process...and you want to tell us about it. Fair enough...but you are not unique..as I pointed out.

then you say you already have your roots put down...but it is IMPERITIVE you buy but now you arent going to bother for another 6 months.

really, what was the point of the announcement, the life history and the reposts.

If it was me, Id post my story of the offers Id have made in general terms, make a story about it, may be even say it was my mums friend...anything but my life story...it would be an anecdotal about a mood, a trend, a feeling Id gained from dealings with the market.

to say you had decided to enter the market is entirely a non event..Others might say you are mad, but 50,000 do so every month.

What we ARE interested in is the general mood of the people who do so and what they are finding. Not the life story.
