Harrogate Being Ramped In Sunday Times

8 posts in this topic

The Sunday Times have asked an estate agent in Harrogate - he tells them things are booming here!!

No effort to check the facts - come on Sunday Times - why don't you give us some Land Registry facts? or is it easier just to take the EA's word for it?
It’s a Teflon town because of the people who live in it and work in it.” He says that from the height of the market a few years ago, house prices had fallen by about 10 per cent. “But I believe that this is only because people expected them to drop.
In one breath they say
a swift turnaround time thanks to a ready supply of buyers with cash to spend.
then they say
... two-bed homes, which take an average of 161 days to sell, ... five-bedroom fare on the market for an average of 211 days
Beautiful.

No, i mean, it's completely fair enough given that it was printed in a Sunday property supplement which is to all intents and purposes a series of advertising features., leaving the reader to dip into it or ignore as [s]he sees fit. There's obviously a demand for reading this sort of thing and/or it brings in money from estate agents/it's a useful way of bulking out the paper.

In the Advertiser this would be printed as 'news'. probably on the front page. In fact, they're probably holding the cover of next Friday's issue as we speak.

The quote about price falls is a gem, however:

"But I believe that this is only because people expected them to drop".

There's something almost Confucian about it. Edited by the flying pig

HGx is for posh people who do not want to live in Leeds.
It has also more than its fair share of fantasists, money hanger ons: deveopers, flouncy designers, etc.

The professional sector in Leeds - all those Lawyers - is getting hammered.

HGx will be hammered.

A nice town, but Harrogate is certainly not immune from the ongoing downturn.

No amount of VI ramping can stop that. ;)

Tat Lady? You being coy?

As far as I could tell, the 'legendary' Leeds sector was all about doing bulk, low end legal transaction - conveyancing, etc.

Leeds legal sector has been promoting itself in recent years as an international hub for business advice. Walker Morris for example makes a lot of it's Chinese connections.
